Irish Redhead Convention

Red hair is the rarest of hair colors and accounts for only 0.6% of the world’s population. The highest percentage of natural redheads in the world live in Scotland at 13% with Ireland reigning in close behind at 10%. Naturally, Ireland is the perfect place to host such a convention.

Originally started as a joke in a pub in the beautiful sailing village of Crosshaven in County Cork by redhead brother and sister, Joleen & Denis Cronin the Irish Redhead Convention now attracts redheads from all over the world. Highlights include the red crawl which is a tour of all the pubs of Crosshaven; the competitive carrot tossing championships; ginger speed dating; best red beard; most freckles per square inch and of course the much-coveted titles of King and Queen.

In 2015 the O’Neill Family won the best redhead family with all 12 attending the festival. Best red beard - Jan-Erick from Finland and most freckles per square inch - Carine Cosyns from Belgium with over 80 freckles per square inch.

The festival dates for 2016 are 19-21 August and if you have red hair this is one festival you should definitely put on your bucket list!
